Bold Author, Budding Artists is a book and YouTube series created by Jodie, under her teacher name, Mrs Fitz. The YouTube channel was a unique way for Jodie to get her picture books out into the world, while providing opportunities for talented student artists to showcase their amazing illustrations. Not only does the channel have fun, enjoyable stories for kids of all ages, there are also handy teacher resources and ideas for the classroom. A percentage of all books sold will be donated to the Literacy Foundation for Children. Jodie's debut young adult novel tells the story of eighteen-year-old Ivy Sampson, who is fresh out of high school and straight out of therapy. Living with her aunt and uncle after the untimely death of her mother years earlier, Ivy is about to have a summer that will change her life forever. Believing her only worry will be choosing which university to attend, Ivy finds herself unprepared for the events that unravel. With the startling reappearance of her runaway father, the forming of a doomed relationship and the complicated lives of her two best friends, can she find comfort in the older boy next door and finally find a way to be happy?
This novel began when Jodie, a young adult herself at the tender age of nineteen, was studying Professional Writing and Editing. It took her a few years to finish writing it and, with some great feedback from her writing class and a recommendation letter from her editor in hand, she submitted to a few publishers. When the inevitable rejections came in (you can't be a real writer without them!), she paused, having no real knowledge of the publishing world. She chose to finally become an indie author many years later, thanks to affordable CreateSpace (before discovering the writing community on Instagram and its wonderful trove of resources!), and she is proud to have made her dream of becoming a published novelist a reality.
